Shore Tech Systems provided Start-rite Ltd with a web application to centralise the management and administration of a key business system. The new administration system provides a consolidation of usage statistics from the existing business system along with email notifications and a reporting service.

The system allows for management of the hosting of the business system physical servers and allows for monitoring of system the outlined resources all from the same central web application:

  • System usage monitoring
  • System Performance monitoring
  • Web based event logging
  • Email notifications
  • Web Service administration
  • Web based SQL Server administration
  • Web based IIS management
    • Creating / Deleting / Stopping / Starting Application pools and Web Sites

Monitor existing system

The system has several key parts. The first ties directly into a previous database system that Shore Tech System had worked on and extended it to provide the ability to monitor the usage of it.

Email Notification

The second stage was the management of an email notification system. This allowed Start rite to control what users received notifications of informational and critical messages generated by the system.

Monitor Hardware

The third section allowed the monitoring of the physical hardware involved in the system. Both IIS and SQL server played a critical part in the system being managed, so processor usage and memory usage statistical information is vital for a comprehensive monitoring solution.

Maintain SQL Server

The fourth section involved a web management interface to provide simplified access to database tasks such as shrinking the transactional log and backing the database up to external backup devices.

Control IIS

The firth section interfaced directly to IIS through the use of WMI scripting from .NET. This allows for configuration of worker pool and web application settings. This gave the ability to set the system up on a completely new server if needed, all from the web management application.
